Mardi Gras Parade - Fighting for our Rights
"Fighting for our Rights" was the Lobby's colourful and energetic
entry in this year's Mardi Gras Parade.
About fifty people were led by four glamorous boxers in sequined robes
and satin boxer shorts fighting for our rights up Oxford Street to the
sounds of humbawumba. Volunteers marched and joined in the theme by creating
their own boxing and fighting styles.
Launch Party
Mardi Gras is always the busiest time for our events and fundraising.
It starts with the GLRL's annual ‘Launch Party’ to mark the
beginning of the Festival.
Our third 'Launch Party' was held this year. It was our second at the
Stonewall Hotel and was once again incredibly busy but fun. The Stonewall's
three-floors were packed all through the night and the gorgeous Candy
Box put on a special show.
We raised nearly $4,000 at the door, almost double that of our 2001 party.
Fair Day
Fair Day is always a favourite. Each year, the GLRL holds a stall to
hand out our many fact sheets and information. For the first time, this
year we also sold our new GLRL t-shirts.
Once again, our always-popular Lobby tattoos were given out to a number
of flesh-flashing bodies that came along.
Fur Ball
For the first year, the GLRL was involved with the Fur Ball, a lesbian
event of fur-riffic fashions.
Lobby Committee members and volunteers staffed the cloak-room for the
night and raised nearly $100. We received an additional $300 from the
Fur Ball bar towards our Parenting Campaign.
