16 February 2010 - Mardi Gras Film Festival Fundraiser for the GLRL

As part of the Mardi Gras Film Festival, Queer Screen will generously donate $5 from every ticket sold from the centerpiece screening of ‘El Niño Pez’ (Fish Child) to the NSW Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL).

Benjamin Keats, Co-Convenor of the GLRL states, “These proceeds will help the GLRL to fund its campaigns for adoption and surrogacy equality in NSW, as well support campaigns for civil marriage equality and federal anti-discrimination provisions.”

In Lucia Puenzo’s Latin Amercian thriller, mysticism and epic love meet. Lala is the privileged daughter of a powerful judge, in love with the family’s young maid, La Guayi. As the two prepare to run away together, Lala’s father is mysteriously murdered and La Guayi is the prime suspect. No longer just runaways, now fugitives, Lala soon finds herself negotiating in a world of poverty, crime and extraordinary danger, as she battles to save her lover.

The GLRL strongly encourages everyone to attend. As a small community organisation, the GLRL relies on the financial contributions of its members and supporters to lobby for equality and social justice for lesbians, gay men and their families.

Kellie McDonald, Co-Convenor of the GLRL says, “We would like to thank Queer Screen for their generous support of the GLRL and invite everyone to show their support for lesbian and gay equality by buying a ticket to what should be a great film.”

The film will be shown on February 23rd at 7:30pm at Palace Academy Twin, Oxford Street.
