The GLRL is launching a series of consultations over July to better understand how discrimination affects individuals in the LGBTI community, and invites you to participate in any of a number of workshops on the issue. Each workshop will have a specific focus: youth; ageing; multicultural; faith-based; transgender, intersex and other sex and/or gender diverse communities. Details for each event are listed below. The workshops will also canvass the current state of anti discrimination laws at both a State and Federal level as the Australian Government consolidates the anti-discrimination laws. In the LGBTI community in particular, the effect of legislative reform has not been fully considered in relation to older people. Legal recognition has coerced some older people into 'coming out' to public institutions, and this increased visibility has led to considerable discrimination. Such discrimination has been raised in relation to accessing healthcare and aged care services. This consultation will invite participants to share their concerns with ageing and aged-care issues. While sexuality, sex and gender identities are related, they should not be conflated. This workshop will seek to tease out some of these complexities by bringing together people who identify as intersex, transgender, or sex and/or gender diverse to share some of their experiences. While sexuality, sex and gender identities are related, they should not be conflated. This workshop will seek to tease out some of these complexities by bringing together people who identify as intersex, transgender, or sex and/or gender diverse to share some of their experiences.
