20 November 2007 - Gay and lesbian lobby group to target polling booths on election day The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby has announced plans to staff polling booths in metropolitan Sydney and distribute information on parties' policies on gay and lesbian law reform. “Gay and lesbian voters face an historic choice at this election. This is our best ever opportunity to achieve equal treatment under federal laws that deal with issues such as superannuation, tax and Medicare benefits,” said Lobby Co-Convenor Peter Johnson. Some parties support equality, but others clearly don't. We won't be telling anybody how to vote, but we ask every voter who cares about lesbian and gay rights to make sure they understand what the parties offer. “We obviously won't be able to target every polling booth, so we will also be taking out full-page ads in the gay and lesbian press, referring people to the detailed information about the parties' commitments on our election website, www.glrl.org.au/election07.” “Every seat is important in this election and the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby is committed to ensuring voters across NSW are able to test their local candidates on their pink credentials,” said Co-Convenor Emily Gray. “Our election website, featuring the full responses of the parties and individual candidates across NSW, has seen a sharp spike in hits since its launch on Thursday.
