| 29 May 2013 - Meeting Proposes Plan For Better Policing Practices At Mardi Gras Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG), ACON, the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) and the Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC) have invited other community groups to a meeting to discuss and ratify recommendations to improve policing practices in NSW before submission to politicians and senior police. A joint media release from Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG), ACON, the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) and the Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC). Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG), ACON, the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) and the Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC) have invited other community groups to a meeting to discuss and ratify recommendations to improve policing practices in NSW before submission to politicians and senior police. A series of recommendations have been developed to address community concerns over the alleged use of excessive force and inappropriate conduct by police at a range of events during this year's Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival. The recommendations have been developed after an extensive review of numerous complaints from the community and feedback provided by attendees at a community forum that was held on 19 March. Community Meeting - 6 June Community representatives will be consulted about the proposed recommendations as well as the process that will be undertaken to advocate for change. The meeting is open to all community groups and also any one from the community who has an interest in this issue. The meeting will take place on Thursday 6 June from 6:30pm at ACON, 414 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. Minutes from 19 March Forum The minutes from the community forum in March were released today and are available on the ACON, SGLMG, GLRL and ICLC websites. The minutes provide a detailed overview of the first community forum that attracted over 250 people and which was attended by Police Corporate Spokesperson Chief Supt Donna Adney, Surry Hills Local Area Commander Supt Tony Crandell, Sydney MP Alex Greenwich and representatives SGLMG, ACON, GLRL and ICLC. These include: The centralisation of all complaints with ACON's Anti-Violence Project and support being provided by ACON and the ICLC for those complaints to be made formally to police.
