6 November 2007 - Lobby to launch election survey at pink picnic The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) will launch its Federal Election Survey on Sunday, 18 November 2007 at an 'I Love, I Vote – Pink Picnic' in Rushcutters Bay Park. The survey, conducted with ACON, was issued to the major parties as well as The Greens, Democrats and Family First and included questions about their commitment to equality for same-sex couples and families, anti-discrimination legislation, inclusive education, HIV immigration regulations, and their willingness to consult with gay and lesbian rights and community organisations. The answers will be widely distributed to GLBT media and published on our website (www.glrl.org.au) in order to provide information to the gay and lesbian community on the parties’ policies. A scorecard will be printed rating each party for its policy commitments, understanding of the issues, ability to implement their promises and their track record on gay and lesbian issues. The results of the survey will be launched at the 'I Love, I Vote – Pink Picnic', a community event being organised by the GLRL. Peter Johnson, Co-Convenor of the GLRL said today, "The Pink Picnic will provide an opportunity in the lead up to the federal election for the gay and lesbian community to call for equality in a friendly environment.” Co-Convenor Emily Gray added, "The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby will be inviting candidates for the seats of Wentworth and Sydney as well as other prominent community members to show they support equality for gay men, lesbians, same-sex couples and their families". The 'I Love, I Vote – Pink Picnic' will take place from Noon on Sunday, 18 November at Rushcutters Bay Park, Edgecliff. The event will include entertainment, a BBQ and games for big kids and small. Members of the gay and lesbian community and their supporters are encouraged to bring along a picnic rug, some sunscreen and show their commitment to equality.
