National Inquiry into Financial and Work-Related Entitlements and Benefits What is it? It is a national inquiry that will investigate the impact that discrimination within both Federal and State laws has on the lives of people living in same-sex relationships. HREOC are seeking submissions that will give them an understanding of the personal experiences of discrimination faced by people in the LGBT community. Why is it important? Once they have received all submissions HREOC will report to the Attorney-General, who will table the findings in Parliament. Like other inquiries of this kind, the final report can be a highly valuable lobbying tool for organisations such as the GLRL in pursuing same-sex law reform. Keep your submissions brief, to the point and ensure that any factual assertions are referenced properly. If your submission is lengthy, summarise the main points and any recommendations at the beginning of the submission.
