About the Lobby
| Getting Involved There are many ways to assist in the fight for equality. Become a member The easiest way to support us is to become a member. To become a member simply print out a membership form and mail or fax it to us. Or you can ring us on 02 9360 6650 or email us at glrl@rainbow.net.au and leave your details and we will get back to you. Please do NOT leave any credit card details on voice mail or email, for your own security. Become a volunteer Those who would like to get more involved can consider volunteering. The Lobby is a community based organisation which receives no funding for lobbying or other core activities. Without volunteers, the work of the organisation could not happen. Most of our work is done by working groups which are led by a Convenor appointed by the Lobby's Committee. Why not join one of these groups? You don't have to be experienced to get involved. You just have to want to make a difference. We currently need volunteers for the following projects: Campaigns for Equality The Campaigns Working Group organises the Lobby's political campaigns. As a part of this Group you can help to organise events, plan campaigns, mobilise volunteers, design posters or marshal at rallies. You don't need to be a lobbyist, we just need lots of hands. Events and Fundraising The task of raising funds to support the work of the Lobby is always enormous. Our Events and Fundraising Group is charged with this task. As part of this group, you can be involved in organising major events, coordinating sponsorship and designing promotional material. This group urgently needs a large number of people to help with The Launch Party and other Mardi Gras events and be involved in our Mardi Gras float. Administration It takes a lot of organisation to get all of the Lobby's work done. If you've got a few hours to spare helping out around the office, we want to hear from you! Gay and Lesbian Community History Project (GALHIP) The Lobby was recently awarded $40,000 to research the history of our Sydney communities. You can help by doing research, gathering oral histories, transcribing interviews, editing publications or assisting with the production of radio, photographic and printed resources. Workplace Discrimination The Workplace Discrimination Working Group has the job of following up on our groundbreaking research, The Pink Ceiling is Too Low. It will be working with unions and employers to change the face of the workplace and is looking for anyone who is interested in helping including those with union or other industrial experience. Short-term volunteering We are also establishing a database of people who are willing to help on a one-off or short-term basis. For example, we sometimes need people for a few hours in a particular week to help with a fundraising event or marshall at a rally. Please call or email if you would like to register.
