Monday 11 February 2002Media release – for immediate useMORE THAN $4,000 RAISED AT LOBBY FUNDRAISER
Hundreds of people helped raise over $4,000 on Friday night for the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL), providing much-needed funds for the Lobby’s vital work.
Money raised from the annual GLRL Launch Party, held at Stonewall following the Mardi Gras Launch, will go towards a campaign fighting for an equal age of consent for gay males. Currently the age of consent for sex between men in NSW is 18, while it is set at 16 for everyone else.
“Everyone who was there had a great night, and they can feel satisfied knowing that their contributions will go to such a worthy cause,” Co-convenor Alex Sosnov said.
“Our thanks go to Ricca Paris, Deborah Wakefield and all the other hard-working staff at Stonewall for their support. Stonewall have been a long-time supporter of the Lobby, and their commitment never goes unappreciated.”
“We’d also like thank Candy Box and the other entertainers for their hard work,” Co-convenor Anthony Schembri said. “And of course our volunteers – Kate Randell, Katie McGovern, Colin Redman, Rob McGrory – and Nikki Maloney and the other Lobby committee members who once again gave up their time.
“And a special thanks to those who came and made it such a fun night.”Print-ready electronic photographs of the night are available: Shane Garland 0409 209 409
