Volunteer for Mardi Gras! The GLRL will participate in the 2011 Mardi Gras events outlined below. We invite you to attend or volunteer at these events. Launch Night – Saturday the 12th of February from 10:30pm-1:30am This is one of our major fundraising nights for the season. We need volunteers to help us collect donations late on the Saturday night from various Oxford Street venue. Placing Discrimination part of Mardi Gras Queer Thinking – Saturday the 19th of February from 10:30am-12pm Senthorun Raj, Senior Policy Advisor for the NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, will facilitate a consultation workshop examining the specific places people experience harassment, vilification and discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Fair Day – Sunday the 20th of February from 10am-6:30pm Come join the GLRL at this year’s Fair Day. For Fair Day we require the assistance of volunteers to help with the following tasks: • Collect donations and manage the running of the Sea of Hearts • Help at the GLRL stall answering questions and looking after membership enquiries. • Help set up and pack down the GLRL stall and Sea of Hearts We will need people for the following shifts: 10am to 12:30pm, 12pm to 2:30pm, 2pm to 4:30pm and 4pm to 6:30pm. The last shift will be required to help with pack down. Politicans "Say Something" – Thursday the 24th of February from 6.30pm-8.30pm Taking place in the first week of the Mardi Gras season and just a month before the NSW State election, this important event could not be timed more perfectly. Presented by New Mardi Gras, the NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby and the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Business Association, Politicians Say Something provides an opportunity to engage with key political leaders and discuss key issues that affect our community. The evening will be MC'd by Ricardo Goncalves (SBS News). Canapés and drinks included in the ticket price. Question Time starts at 7pm. Tickets prices are $25 to members of the GLRL, SGLBA or New Mardi Gras. $35 for general admission. Click here to book tickets.
