Federal Election 2004
To: mojc@ag.gov.au; Nicola.Roxon.MP@aph.gov.au; John.Anderson.MP@aph.gov.au; senator.brown@aph.gov.au; senator.bartlett@aph.gov.au cc: glrl@glrl.org.au Subject: Remove Commonwealth Discrimination on the Grounds of Sexuality Content: I am writing to you to express my support for the complete removal of the inequalities against lesbian and gay men in Commonwealth legislation. Lesbians and gay men still face discrimination in many areas of federal law, including the recognition of our families, social security and veterans’ affairs benefits, and taxation. Further, there is no anti-discrimination legislation that protects us from discrimination on the basis of our sexuality. These barriers continue to provide very real impediments to the every day lives of lesbians and gay men and their families, and provide a legislative framework for the ongoing stigmatisation of some Australians based on their sexuality. I am writing to you to ensure that in the new parliament you and your party will support the removal of these barriers to the full legislative equality of lesbians and gay men in Australia. I look forward to your response. Yours sincerely,
