THE RIGHTS STUFF GLRL Newsletter 2004
With an October 9 Federal Election on the way, the GLRL has kicked off our 2004 Federal election campaign.
After almost nine years of continual attack and setback from Canberra, it is time that the community sends a message that there are more votes in equality than homophobia. Gay men and lesbians are still unequal when it comes to family recognition, social security, taxation, the military and anti-discrimination legislation. As part of the ongoing fight for equality and social justice for lesbians and gay men, the GLRL will be campaigning to make sure that the politicians know that we demand full recognition under the law and nothing less.
As part of that campaign we will be surveying the five main political parties for their policies relating to lesbian and gay issues. We will then be using that information to make sure that the community is informed about where each party stands in terms of commitment to our rights.
Keep an eye on our website for regular updates throughout the campaign, including survey results.
Our current campaign theme, as highlighted in recent large purple advertisements in the lesbian and gay press, is:EQUALITY – THE MUST HAVE ACCESSORY FOR A POLITICIAN IN 2004.
