PRESS RELEASE - June 2003 THANK YOU! We did it! After a nineteen year battle, NSW finally has an equal age of consent! The Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby would like to convey a heartfelt thanks to the countless number of organisations and individuals who for so long have campaigned for this reform. Thank you to each and every person who has worked so passionately for many years to achieve this reform. Thank you for writing letters, speaking out on the issue, working on our campaigns, lobbying members of parliament, making donations, attending our rallies and fundraisers and much more. Thank you for refusing to accept anything short of equality. You have helped make the lives of young gay men in this state easier, happier and healthier. We also wish to acknowledge the 77 members of parliament who voted to support equality. Most importantly, our thanks to those MP’s who for years have campaigned with us and kept this issue alive in Macquarie Street. This significant achievement is a tribute to the collective effort and strength of our community and supporters. We will soon be announcing the details of a community event to celebrate this success. Please watch community media or contact the GLRL for details. Despite this win, there are still many laws which discriminate against lesbians and gay men.
