Take Action On Age of Consent!

Dear Community Members and Supporters,
The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby is an organisation which aims to achieve equality and social justice for gay men and lesbians through active lobbying for law reform and promoting social acceptance in the community.
One of the Lobby's major campaigns in the last few years has been to equalise the age of sexual consent for homosexual males. The age of consent for gay men in NSW is 18 while heterosexuals and lesbians are able to consent to sex at 16.
NSW has the most draconian laws of any Australian state on this issue.
Recently a private members bill was introduced into the NSW Upper House to equalise the age of consent for homosexual males. The bill has been moved to the NSW Parliament Social Issues committee for an inquiry into the social and legal impact of equalising the age of consent.
The Lobby feels that it is vital for community members to express their concern over this discriminatory law and the effect that it has on the lives on young gay men. We are calling on all community members and supporters to make submissions to the inquiry supporting an equal age of consent.
